‘Campaign against Spotify’: Stranger Things reignites royalties fight

Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood says Kate Bush’s song ‘Running Up That Hill’ being used in a scene in Stranger Things has led to the song climbing to number one on the Spotify charts in the UK again.

“So, good for Kate Bush with the royalties rolling in after all these years, right? Well, maybe not,” Mr Greenwood said.

“You see, the reclusive Ms Bush is leading a campaign against Spotify, try to change the way that artists are paid.

“The latest detail suggests that artists are paid as little as 0.331 cents per stream or, in other words, $3.31 for every 1,000 listens if you like, and Kate is not alone in this fight.”
